Birmingham's Light Night event will be staged on Friday 12th September 2008 as part of the city's hugely successful ArtsFest event.
ArtsFest is the UK's largest free Arts Festival combining 25 hours of live entertainment, 30 venues and 3000 performers. In 2007 the event attracted over 200,000 visitors.
Light Night in Birmingham will feature architectural lighting of iconic city centre buildings and iconic landmarks such as:
* The newly refurbished £35M Town Hall
* The Council House
* Museum and Art Gallery
* Selfridges building at the Bullring
* The Rotunda
* Birmingham Cathedral
* plus a few surprises!
These landmarks will be beautifully lit to create a visually stunning trail of features around Birmingham City Centre.
Music and Performance
The streets and civic squares of Birmingham City Centre will come alive with hundreds of performers, musical acts and street theatre throughout the evening.
Venues all over the City Centre will be open to showcase the best of musical talent in the West Midlands, Comedy, Dance and Theatre.
The City doesn't sleep... Birmingham's fantastic shopping area, with its big name department stores and chic independent retailers will open late, along with civic buildings such as the Central Library, Museum and Art Gallery and the Town Hall to welcome visitors all ages helping to create a seamless link between the hundreds of performers and beautifully lit buildings.
Light Night Birmingham is set to attract tens of thousands of people into the City Centre and promises to be a spectacular celebration of Arts, Culture, Musical Performance and lighting for residents and visitors alike. The opportunity to go behind the scenes, visit buildings not normally open to the public and take onboard the amazing diversity of the City and the region in this cultural spectacular is not to be missed... and all for free.
