Light Night Study Visits
Friday 19th December 2008
Light Night, a project supported by ATCM, consists of a programme of events, activities and attractions hosted by a town, city or place, that are open all night! During 2008, six major cities offered their residents, businesses and visitors the opportunity to experience their city from a fresh perspective, a chance for everyone to come together and celebrate the place, focusing on a shared culture, history and identity.
For an entire evening a place 'stays up' so that the centre or location can be seen in a new light with a whole host of activities and events drawing inspirational from culture, arts, sport, music and entertainment. Spectators get to 'lose themselves' in the city, which is transformed into a stage for the night. Light Night is the best showcase for gaining wide public interest and participation so that people 'buy into' their city in a short amount of time and a key element of the programme in each city is that all events are FREE. Light Night is created in order to include sections of society; motivating and moving people into their centre, by hosting different events, exhibitions, museum openings and shows from a wide variety of activities that will appeal to many people across the whole community.
There will be two Light Night events in early 2009, one in Liverpool and one in Nottingham. Both City Councils have generously agreed to host informal briefings for other centre and place managers and those involved in place management, before the main activity programme starts in each location. Light Night principles and basic fundamentals will be explained, how you can get involved and also an outline of the highlights of the evening ahead for each location. You will then, armed with knowledge and know how, be free to experience the events and activities in each location first hand.
Please find details of each city programme below. If you are interested in attend a briefing on Light Night in either of these locations please email events@atcm.org stating which date, location and the names of the individuals who wish to attend (limited to two representatives from each member):
